IN THEIR OWN WORDS:
CLIENT STORIES
I
am a middle aged woman referred to PRISM by my friend. She
became worried about me when she discovered I had used all of my
funds and there was nothing left. I ran out of unemployment and
maxed out my credit cards. I even wrote a letter to the credit card
company requesting an increase in the amount available to me. I
did everything I could to make ends
meet including taking out a home equity loan.
I am a published author and have been financially
independent and self supporting all my life. It was losing my job
due to the present economy that brought me to needing assistance,
a position I have never experienced before.
PRISM saw me through and supported me in every
way possible. I accepted the fact that I needed to access the services
of PRISM regularly until I could get my job and my finances back
in place. Coming through PRISM’s doors did not just provide
my financial need it also provided a listening ear. They provided
food and clothing and even books for me to read. And when I had
need of health care and dental care, PRISM staff found resources
to meet that need as well.
I am now happily working and faithfully paying
off past debt accumulated during my financial crisis.
I
had just finished training to be a medical assistant. My
husband was working, but with my school expenses and the cost of
raising our four children, we fell further and further behind in
our finances, ending up with a large debt.
I was determined
to get an education to provide for a good-paying job.
I needed a car to
get to and from work and couldn't afford a high car payment.
Thanks to a wonderful family that donated
their vehicle to PRISM, I was able to be helped to purchase this
used vehicle through the Ways to Work program. We had a wonderful
opportunity to receive this vehicle and tell our story at the PRISM
Silent Auction dinner in September.
With this vehicle, I will be able to advance
in my new job as a medical assistant and be available for the patients
that need help. Thank you, PRISM staff, and especially thank you
to those who donate their vehicle to help working families like
mine.
