A Summer Experience to Last a Lifetime
Applying for college soon? Or a job? Are you looking for a worthwhile activity that can enhance your college applications or resume or just give you some valuable work experience? This summer, PRISM is offering volunteer positions and volunteer mentor positions to youth (12 and up) and adults.  

Volunteer as an individual, with a friend or as a family. Positions are available in our Food Shelf, Clothes Closet, Reception Area and Resource Transportation area.  

Volunteers completing the program will receive:

  • the satisfaction of making a real difference in the local community
  • valuable work experience in a warm, friendly environment
  • guidance from staff and volunteer mentors
  • service hours (for those volunteers who are tracking them)
  • a written evaluation/letter of recommendation that can be used for college or job applications

 

Program Schedule

  • June 1 – August 31: our preference is that volunteers will work the entire three-month period
  • Volunteers are not expected to start before their regular school/college classes are done for the summer
  • Volunteers may leave the program early if regular school/college classes begin before September 1
  • Arrangements can be made for volunteers who will be on vacation for a portion of the summer and those who will begin sports practice in August

Time Commitment

  • Minimum of 4 hours per week on a regularly scheduled shift 
  • Additional shifts/hours available

Age Requirements (must meet one)

  • 18 years or older
  • 15-17 years old with signed permission from parent or guardian
  • 12-14 years old with parent/guardian/designated adult

Departments

Food Shelf:

  • Assist families with shopping
  • Take in food donations, sort, shelve and stock food items
  • Maintain a clean, friendly environment

Clothes Closet/Career Closet/Birthday Room:

  • Take in donations of clothing and household goods
  • Sort and organize clothing & household goods
  • Hang clothing in Clothes Closet shop area
  • Assist clients in shopping for clothing/birthday items
  • Organize books in library

Front Desk/Reception/Clerical:

  • Create a warm, welcoming environment for clients/donors/staff
  • Answer phones, Screen callers and schedule appointments
  • Make reminder calls for appointments
  • Data entry, filing and other clerical duties as needed

Auto Shop Assistant:

  • Assist mechanic by moving/parking cars
  • Picking up parts
  • Other duties as needed
